New Year's (Non) Resolutions
New Year, new me should be cancelled. Abruptly. Thinking we have the capacity to change overnight and suddenly become our best version is outdated by now. Not all hope is lost though, there are some things we can do to shift how we perceive the world.
Phases: we go through different phases of life and of what we want to focus our attention on in cycles. Sometimes the change is so smooth we don’t realise that what we have been concentrating on no longer makes sense and we have lost motivation to pursue certain goals or traits. That’s because it’s not about goal setting, but finding our inner purpose and working around it.
It’s time we start accepting the place we are at and where we came from with great joy and not wishing for things to be different all the time. This doesn’t mean we shouldn't do things for it to change. It means we shouldn’t attach ourselves to the idea that when things change we can finally be happy.
Long term contentment can be achieved if we work towards realising the interdependent nature of reality, the emptiness of things and that change is the only permanent thing in life. For this reason, it doesn’t really matter where we are right now, but the strategy to be who we want to be tomorrow, mindfully.
Some realisations I have had the past year and I wish to continue working on this next year:
Having a healthy relationship with social media
Creating over-consuming
Prioritizing relationships that get me closer to the person I wish to become
Prioritizing myself
Becoming a life-long student
Meditating, understanding the science behind it and meditating more
Planning and organizing ahead
Hell yes or no
Happy New Year.
